Chocolate Peanut Butter Bacon

Today I picked up some cupcakes from Dollop - Gourmet Cupcake Creations. To my great elation we were able to get a box of truffles along with our pack of cupcakes. And what do you know, one of these truffles was topped with bacon: my kind of truffle!

The first thing that hits you is the salt from the bacon, quickly followed by the chocolate coating. Then the peanut butter sneaks up on you and kicks you right in the keister. Finally the whole thing makes a return trip, with the chocolate slowly overpowering the peanut butter ultimately leaving a sweet bacon-y after-taste.

Well done cupcake lady... well done. You've won this round!

Bacon Wrapped Dates With Almonds

Thanksgiving is a time for reflection: a time to enjoy friends and family, a time to watch some football...

But most of all, Thanksgiving is a time to eat. Ok, so the traditional meat of choice for this festive occasion is tuuuuurkey (note I'm saying that with a sneer). Turkey's actually pretty good (especially if it's fried) but man, what were those Pilgrims thinking when they skipped over all the delicious pork roaming the virgin countryside (note, I am not a historian, and based on some history channel specials think the wild boar were actually brought here by the Europeans, maybe?). I digress.

This thanksgiving we decided to start things off right. This means we started them off with bacon. My aunt made these delicious stuffed dates wrapped in bacon. Oh man, the perfect combination of sweet, chewy, crunchy, savory, and salty. The best way to tell you how good they were is to tell you how long they lasted. Basically, they didn't. The entire plate was gone in minutes.

I give this two huge thumbs up, and they seem pretty easy to make (especially since I didn't make them). Happy Festivus from the Restivus!

Bacon Beer???

There is nothing sacred...

This year Rogue has come out with a new brew: the Voodoo Doughnut Bacon Maple Ale. That's right... Doughnut; Bacon; Maple; Ale. I'm fascinated, yet at the same time I can't imagine this is going to be good. Especially $13/750ml bottle good.

Who knows, though. If I can find it in a local store I'll give it a try. I think I've got some Beers of the World gift cards laying around somewhere.

You can buy it online here: Rogue Voodoo Doughnut Bacon Maple Ale 750ml Bottle

KFCs Cheesy Bacon Bowl...

...of DELICIOUS!!

Ok, nutrition stuff out of the way first. At 700+ calories, ~300 of which coming from fat, it's not the healthiest thing you could get at KFC. Then again, it's definitely not the worst thing you could get either (I'm lookin' at you, Chicken Pot Pie with 64oz Mt. Dew). But hey, you're eating at KFC. How much could you really care about nutrition.

Overall this thing is frickin' delicious. It's hearty and savory with meat and carbs and dairy and fat all mixing together into an artery clogging bowl of goodness. That being said, I kind of felt like I was eating out of a slop-trough. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing.

Verdict: worth a try if only to say you've eaten one, and it is pretty tasty, but it probably won't be part of my regular bacon consumption.
